Polycom and Microsoft have been in joint collaboration for a while now. We have seen this in the Lync Phone edition client that appears on the CX 500/600/700 phones and the CX 3000 conferencing phone.
I have been delivering some training to Polycom on their HDX 4000 and RMX 1500 MCU’s and they are great pieces of hardware. To see how this works have a look at the following blog which gives a detailed explanation of the integration.
In essence the HDX and RMX provide a hardware based solution for hosting video conferences.
